St. Edmunds Preparatory School, Surrey

An important adjunct to the main school, the pre-school had no immediate outside play area except for a small area of sloped grass overgrown with hedges.

Our response to the client’s request for a flexible, sheltered play space was to design and build a level decked area above the existing grass slope, allowing the children direct access from their classrooms, protected from the elements by our Roman shelter.

Windbreaks were added to shield the children from prevailing winds and a sandpit and water play unit were built into the decked space. The whole area was securely fenced in and the children are now able to partake in self-initiated activity.
